What Are Macros
What are Macros? |
Macronutrients or “Macros” are the primary sources of nutrition a body needs to maintain healthy function. There are three macronutrients: protein, fat and carbohydrates. Each macronutrient contains a certain number of calories per gram. Counting macros ensures that you are maximizing your caloric intake with the right amount of proteins, carbs, and fats to fuel your body making it possible for you to achieve your goals.
How to Track? |
Using an app designed to track your daily food intake, you will set your custom macros and track all food and drink you consume daily.I recommend the following apps: My Fitness Pal or Lose it. I will include my “Lose it” app info guide with all my independent plans.
You’ll also want to invest in an inexpensive food scale. Weighing out your food is easy and the most accurate way to track your macros. You can choose the metric units you prefer, and track as you consume or build a daily food plan that allows you to see your progress and increase/decrease specific macronutrients based on your customized macro calculation.
Why Count Macros? |
Counting macros creates intention when it comes to what you eat and allows you to eat all food groups to help fuel your body. You don't cut out any food group unless you want to, it all comes down to portion control. I am all about participating and finding balance when it comes to food intake. Overall, tracking ensures accuracy, serving size awareness, shows you what you're eating and shows you if you're hitting your daily macros goal.
